The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in game five of the World Series Wednesday evening at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, clinching the first World Series title in Brewers history as Wisconsinites cheered enthusiastically at watch parties, including at American Family Field and at the Deer District outside Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee. Baylor Spears and Henry Redman have the wrapup.
Back in Wisconsin, Democratic candidate for governor David Crowley is heading into the final week of the campaign with an expanded polling advantage over Republican candidate Tom Tiffany. Crowley also had a slight fundraising advantage in the most recent reporting period, though Tiffany, who has raised more money overall, is still outspending the Democratic candidate. Spears rounds up the latest news ahead of Election Day next week.
When Wisconsin voters choose a governor on Tuesday, they’ll automatically choose that person’s second fiddle — the lieutenant governor who could end up stepping into the top job unexpectedly. The running mates are a former small-town mayor and one-time staffer for a conservative Christian policy organization or a political veteran who’s already held two statewide offices. Erik Gunn reports on David Varnam and Sarah Godlewski.
Less than a week before Election Day, President Donald Trump’s unprecedented drive for power over elections has set the stage for a series of courtroom fights that could quickly lead to a high-stakes showdown at the U.S. Supreme Court over the limits of federal authority. Jonathan Shorman of our Washington Bureau team has an overview of the situation.
