QUOTE OF THE DAY
“We're going to listen to every region … every community. We're going to make decisions that are based on what's best for everyone here in the state of Wisconsin, and we are going to measure our success on whether life gets better for all families in this great state.”

Following their resounding victories in Tuesday’s election, Governor-elect David Crowley and legislative Democrats who will be in the driver’s seat discussed their plans Wednesday as they look ahead to taking office in the new year. Crowley told reporters healthcare and affordability top his concerns, but deferred to the incoming Senate and Assembly leaders on the specifics, Isiah Holmes and Baylor Spears report

Wisconsin Republicans started the evening on Tuesday feeling optimistic, but the celebratory vibe didn’t last long as a blue wave swept across the nation and Wisconsin, putting Tom Tiffany on the losing side in the governor’s race won by Crowley. Spears reports on how GOP lawmakers are grappling with the outcome.

Editor Ruth Conniff surveys the morning after unprecedented wins for Democrats across the country that were echoed in Wisconsin with Crowley’s victory and the successful effort to overturn GOP majorities in both houses of the Legislature — and the absence of the much-dreaded authoritarian interference with the outcome. “There is still time and hope left for our country,” she writes in a commentary.
